Your bank might be literally tracking all your purchases and using that info to PROFIT! JPMorgan Chase has just launched a media business that'll let advertisers target the massive financial institution's eighty million customers - with info MINED from purchases they've made using their Chase accounts! So, for example, a pet food company could advertise exclusively to people who've made transactions at PetSmart. Or an airline could offer a discount exclusively to people who'd previously bought tickets on a DIFFERENT airline. It sounds a lot like an invasion of privacy and a risk to your personal data, but Chase says none of the users' data is actually SHARED with the advertisers. The ads will only be seen on Chase's app and website, so it's just Chase USING the data to target who sees what. We all know free-to-use things like search engines and social media sites make money by letting companies advertise to us. But is it okay for a BANK to make money off its fee-paying customers this way?
