Tap Tap CRONCH mega mix here for your ASMR pleasure. People are constantly asking me why I tap mushrooms. There are many reasons, first and foremost, tapping helps to remove dirt and bugs before picking. Tapping the mushrooms gives me a sense of their density, maturing, and whether or not they are full of bugs. The resonance of each individual mushroom is unique and I like listening to the noise (as do others). Tapping mushrooms is a fun and harmless way to interact with nature and drives engagement from people online. Lastly, tapping mushrooms may help to release some additional spores before picking, but mushrooms are fully capable of doing that on their own without any tapping. Hopefully this helps to answer your questions. Feel free to listen to episode 6 of my FBF p0dcast to hear more of my rationale. . This video includes both edible and toxic mushrooms, watch my other videos to learn how to confidently identify each individual species of mushroom. . Every time I post a video like this I get harassed by gatekeepers who are convinced that I am somehow damaging the mycelium below by picking instead of cutting. While I agree it’s best to cut polypores (rather than ripping the whole fruiting body out of the wood), for these mushrooms it does not make a difference. A comprehensive 30 year study showed no significant difference in the frequency of appearance or size of mushroom fruiting bodies between cut vs. pluck harvesting methods. You read the study yourself if you don’t believe me “Mushroom picking does not impair future harvests” Egli, et. al., 2006 Conservation Biology. .
