info
Here I am blowing on some Ascomycete cup fungi (Common Brown Cups - Phylloscypha phyllogena - not edible). These mushrooms are packed with spores in little pressure sensitive sacs called asci (ascus). When they sense a change in air pressure, the needle shaped sac swells up and ruptures, squirting out spores into the air to be carried by the wind. If you turn up the volume, you can actually hear them “hiss” just as the spores are released. Pretty cool way to get your spores out there! Practice this yourself and impress your friends with your fungal knowhow. . . #ascomycota #spore #spores #mycology #fascinatedbyfungi #cupfungi #stemtok
