Chronic knee pain crept up on me, slowly getting worse over 7 years. I tried everything – knee straps, sleeves, ice, endless passive stretching – but nothing truly solved it. It was frustrating and made even simple movements painful. Why there are movements for “upper body” power that invovle the lower body? Well in almost every aspect of sport or competition we are rarely if ever isolating or lower half from the upper. Its really about how quickly and how much force you can TRANSFER up the chain to be expressed out the arms. It kinda like add a little bit force every step of the way and if a lonk is broken or doesnt fire so does your expression of power. A boxer doesnt just use their arm to throw a punch. Grip strength should never be the reason you cant keep going. Grip strength is to the upper as ankle strength is to the lower body. Without it your are not going to be abke to transfer as much force and power as you should during the secred movement or exercise. Not all of these are going to smoke your grip strength but the rope and towel variations definitely will. The other exercises shown are to also support full athletic development of explosive power, muscular endurance/isometric strength, etc.. I’ve worked with pleanty of BJJ, MMA, Boxing, Wrestling athletes and most come to from either a power lifting or bodybuilding background which has some benefits but still neglect specific adaptations athletes need like, power, mobility, stability, coordination, speed, and agility. Why there are movements for “upper body” power that invovle the lower body? Well in almost every aspect of sport or competition we are rarely if ever isolating or lower half from the upper. Its really about how quickly and how much force you can TRANSFER up the chain to be expressed out the arms. It kinda like add a little bit force every step of the way and if a lonk is broken or doesnt fire so does your expression of power. A boxer doesnt just use their arm to throw a punch. Grip strength should never be the reason you cant keep going. Grip strength is to the upper as ankle strength is to the lower body. Without it your are not going to be abke to transfer as much force and power as you should during the secred movement or exercise. Not all of these are going to smoke your grip strength but the rope and towel variations definitely will. The other exercises shown are to also support full athletic development of explosive power, muscular endurance/isometric strength, etc.. I’ve worked with pleanty of BJJ, MMA, Boxing, Wrestling athletes and most come to from either a power lifting or bodybuilding background which has some benefits but still neglect specific adaptations athletes need like, power, mobility, stability, coordination, speed, and agility.
