Located in northern Florida, Ocala National Forest covers an area of 607 square miles making it the second largest in the state. Furthermore Ocala is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River and is the southern most national forest in the continental United States. The forest contains hundreds of lakes and ponds, natural springs, several slow moving rivers along with numerous wet prairies, longleaf pines, Florida scrub, the largest concentration of sand pine in the world, Southern coastal plain oak dome and hammock, Baldcypress, evergreen and hardwood trees, along with swamp Tupelo’s. There is so much wildlife within the park but the most notable is the Florida Black Bear in which the highest concentration of this species is in the park.
