Located in northern Florida, Ocala National Forest covers an area of 607 square miles making it the second largest in the state. Furthermore Ocala is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River and is the southern most national forest in the continental United States. The forest contains hundreds of lakes and ponds, natural springs, several slow moving rivers along with numerous wet prairies, longleaf pines, Florida scrub, the largest concentration of sand pine in the world, Southern coastal plain oak dome and hammock, Baldcypress, evergreen and hardwood trees, along with swamp Tupelo’s. There is so much wildlife within the park but the most notable is the Florida Black Bear in which the highest concentration of this species is in the park. I’ve been to this National Park once in my life during a 2 week trip in Maine. This park perfectly represents the beauty that the coastline of Maine is. From the rocky coast, to scenic lighthouses, and beautiful ponds, this park has plenty to offer and is extremely easy to navigate. I drove all around the park and my favorite spots are Jordan Pond, Cadillac Mountain, Otter Cliff overlooks, and the Bass Harbor Head light station. Have you been? I’ve been to Gateway Arch National Park a few times in my life during various cross country trips and a weekend trip in the city of St. Louis. I do believe this should be a national monument over a national park but nevertheless seeing the Arch was one of things I looked forward to the most as a child and I believe the Arch itself lives up to that anticipation. It’s such an impressive structure and it’s always a cool thing to see. I have never went to the top and typically just walk the park grounds getting different views of the Arch when I’m there. I’ve been to Congaree National Park once in my life in April of 2022 while I was on my way to Florida. I only did the boardwalk loop that is just over 2 miles round trip and loops around a small area of the western portion of the park. The loop gives you a good sense of the swampy landscape that the park offers.
