Here’s another piece of DC history at the National Arboretum! These brick buildings have been here since 1904 when the Red Oak Spring Company was founded by Leopold Luchs. At the time, typhoid fever was an epidemic in Washington, DC and drinking bottled water was a popular precaution. Luchs capitalized on the disease by bottling the water from the stream that ran through his property. Today the stream is called Springhouse Run. —————— #bestaddress #nationalarboretum #springhouses #bottledwater #typhoidfever #epidemic #waterfiltration #1900s #brickbuilding #historicalbuildings #visitwashingtondc #historicalarchitecture #oldplaces
