π @TheVascularGuy πIn my opinion, it is very rare that the walls of the vessels actually rupture due to high pressure. Those vessels do have a tensile strength limit, but they are also very elastic. The majority of the time it's either too much volume and pressure causing backflow out of the insertion site of the vein extravasated whatever we're putting in the tubing. or the catheter itself is actually piston out of the vein due to the high-pressure jettison effect. This is hard flushing is a good idea for pivs. #vascularaccess #medschool #doctor #medstudent #residency #nursingstudent #newgradnurse #phlebotomy #icunurse #ernurse #criticalcare #chronicillness #ehlersdanlos #eds #mcas #nursingschool #ernurse #resuscitation #ultrasoundguidedpiv #usgpiv (Disclosures: I have a consulting agreement with the following companies Nexus Medical, Eloquest, Covalon, Access Vascular)
