I have been the recipient of this “faux pas” before but I cannot deny having committed this error myself, perhaps plenty of times. Nowadays with so many of our social interactions taking place online, it has begun to feel like there is a lot of pressure to perform well in those seemingly rare face-to-face encounters. We all want to walk away thinking, “nailed it!” And yet, I think that in the process we have failed to remember that conversations are meant to be balanced between both (or all) those in attendance. People like to be listened to. In fact, research in psychology and social sciences supports the idea that simply listening to others talk may not necessarily alleviate feelings of loneliness, rather one must feel heard and understood for the social interaction to have significant meaning. For this reason I would like to highlight one small (yet very prevalent) aspect of social interactions that can be improved upon. I would love to hear from any of you in the comments, has it happened to you? Are you the culprit? What have you found that works or doesn’t work well in these situations? #socialinteractionskills #lifecoach #lifecoaching #socialskills #conversationskills #communicationcoach #lonliness #buildcommunity #bettercommunication #community #communication #conversation #personaldevelopment #growthmindset #listen #listenmoretalkless #listenmorespeakless
