FRANNIE UPDATE!! We have some good news!! We took Frannie to the orthopedic team at UC Davis Vet Med for what we thought was going to be a CT scan to plan for her total hip replacement and they concluded that she does not in fact need a hip replacement! It seems that the joint has stabilized itself and that she is a whole lot more comfortable than before when we first started seeing issues with it in April/May. Doing the hip replacement would not provide any additional support or comfort. Her hip still does not extend as far as it should so she will always walk a little gimpy on that leg. Good news is that it seems her pain is well controlled there!!! The bad news is that now her right knee is what seems to be causing her pain and discomfort. Her doctor thinks that we can improve her comfort by increasing her muscle strength to better support the joint so we will continue with weekly rehab and water treadmill therapy at UC Davis. Meanwhile, we have started her on a new pain medication and will be starting Librela up again! Frannie made it A WHOLE MILE!!!!!!! (1.6km) Can you guys even believe that??? She literally couldn’t even get up or walk on her own a little over three months ago and now she is walking a MILE!!!! She’s really picking up the pace too and enjoys her walks a lot more than before, as well as sustaining a lot more endurance. Frannie had so much fun last weekend when we brought her to the snow so we took her again! I could already tell how much she has improved from last weekend as she was walking around so much easier and with a lot more confidence! I've been struggling to motivate Frannie to walk more besides just playing with her tennis ball. When we play ball, though, she only goes a few feet before lying back down. She absolutely refuses to go on a "walk" unless it's her idea! Every time I take her to the vet to get weighed, she walks herself over when I open the car door! If I wait too long to help her get in, she paws at the car and gives me the look! So, I took her to meet Josie🐴! Now, I take Frannie to see Josie almost every day because she loves walking around and exploring. We are so excited about Frannie’s progress!! She LOVES her tennis balls and we have been using them to our advantage! This week she shocked us and was literally trying to run after them - we were speechless!!! We are just so happy that she is feeling so much better and is that much closer to actually running after the tennis ball one day!
