Today we felled a total of 6 new cedar trees! We then replanted two for every one tree so we don’t run out of them. After felling and trimming, we fire up Big John to pull them to the cabin location! These logs are getting a bit heavy though, I either need to cut small, more manageable or find a new technique to move them! We are starting a log cabin build. Today we chopped four nice sized cedar logs. Cedar is the wood of choice for cabins as it is naturally acidic. This means bugs will not bite into it and compromise its structural integrity. However we must debark these logs as bugs can burrow in the bark. Debarking must be done quickly after chopping down the tree because after its chopped the sap will harden making it much more difficult to peel off.
