Some of you are already very familiar with this and may find it obvious. For some people, it's new! I didn't invent this nor is it necessarily obscure. Both performing and competing strongmen, among other disciplines, have used similar methods. It doesn't have to replace your regular training. It probably shouldn't, actually. It's just another tool in our toolbox we can use! The bar I use is called an IsoMax (unsponsored). I like it a lot, but some people may not like the price. Exercising without moving! I've been playing with isometrics. The device I use is the Isomax from Dragon Door. Not sponsored - just been playing with it. I may do an review on it if anyone is curious. I don't have an affiliate code or anything either. I'm not against that stuff, but whenever possible I prefer to talk about things without people thinking there's money involved. Most people who are curious about this can build their own just to test it. There are also plenty of bodyweight isometrics like wall sits, horse stance, planks, levers, flags, and more! I really like this topic even though it might not be the most popular for views (understandable since you're literally watching someone not move 😅), so I might make more! Let me know if there's anything you're curious about. To be clear, this obviously doesn't have to "replace" lifting. By all means, do both if you like! Sometimes your muscles just want to be held 👉👈 Here are two common ways to train isometrics: Yielding Isometrics: Choosing to hold a position for time Overcoming Isometrics: Trying to move against something that won't move. Note that there are different terms. Some people like to call these "pin isometrics". Personally, I find yielding & overcoming to be fine, since pins aren't always involved. (These were commonly used in a power rack with a barbell - possibly how they got the name "pin isometrics") Some people have even said power racks were invented for isometrics! Combining calisthenics and overcoming isometrics! This is my current workout (more or less) It's not necessarily based on any type of "optimization" - I just like combining the deep ROM with higher forces of common lifts like squats, deadlifts, shoulder presses, etc. This is also partially why I've done more isometrics content lately! Time efficiency plays a big role in my workouts nowadays, and this is easy to slot in to a full schedule when needed. Hope everyone has a wonderful 2024!
