Gotcha! But for real, please don’t be out here giving your pets essential oils, many can be toxic to your pets! 😭💔 Cats are particularly sensitive to essential oils as they don’t have certain liver enzymes to effectively metabolize these oils 😱 Many toxic essential oils include but are not limited to: oil of cinnamon, citrus, pennyroyal, peppermint, pine, sweet birch, tea tree (melaleuca), wintergreen, and ylang ylang. Both ingestion and skin exposure can be toxic, even just a few drops in high concentrations (how essential oils usually come) 😮 Look for signs of: ✅ difficulty walking or uncoordinated gait ✅ difficulty breathing, lethargy or weakness ✅ muscle tremors ✅ pawing at the mouth or face ✅ redness or burns on the lips, gums, tongue, or skin ✅ drooling and vomiting (you may note the smell of essential oils in the vomit) If you believe that your cat has ingested or come in contact with essential oils or liquid potpourri, call your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline (800-213-6680), a 24/7 animal poison control center, immediately 📞🚨 Please save and share! You could save a pet! I had an especially heart breaking case this week of essential oil toxicity and liver failure and would like to help keep another family from going through that again! 🩺❤️🐶🐱 #veterinarian #veterinarians #veterinariansofinstagram #veterinarianlife #vetlife #vetmedlife #vetmed #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryemergency #emergencyvet #vetclinic #vetcliniclife #veterinaryclinic #animalhospital #animalhospitallife #vettech #vettechsofinstagram #veterinarytechnician #vetstudent #veterinarystudent #vetstudentlife #aavmp #asiandoctor #petcare #essentialoils #essentialoil #veterinariansoftiktok
