Gratin Dauphinois 500g peeled and sliced yellow potato 2 cups heavy cream 1/2 bunch thyme 2 cloves garlic crushed 1/2tsp grated nutmeg 1 shallot sliced 5 + 2 oz grated Gruyère 4Tbsp butter 1Tbsp salt 1 whole egg -Combine cream, salt, thyme, garlic, butter, shallot, nutmeg. Bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and cover. -Let steep 30 minutes. -Strain cream mixture over sliced potato -Add 5oz Gruyère and mix well. -Add egg and mix well -Layer potatoes as desired. Cover with remaining cream until almost submerged. -Bake at 350f for 50-60 minutes. Test doneness with a fork. Should be tender all the way through. -Enjoy.
