The STRENGTH of the U.S. Dollar caused the Federal Reserve’s SUPER SIZED INTEREST RATE CUT in September. WHAT?!?! It certainly doesn’t feel like we’ve seen the dollar strengthen… “Well, why doesn’t my dollar buy me as much?!” I get it. But the reality is, the U.S. Dollar has pretty much done nothing but go up in value against foreign currencies for the past 15 years. Sounds great! BUT, it makes our goods more expensive. It makes foreign buyers less able to buy them. It puts more stress on foreign economies (which are already weaker than the U.S. economy). It puts more stress on U.S. economy. As a result of the above, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates—in SUPERSIZED FORM—last month in September. Let me guess- you haven’t heard this take from anyone else on social media- I’M SHOCKED.
