a quick lil island getaway to the historic town of Lamu and its pristine Indian Ocean beaches. Cars are banned from this island, so donkeys, bicycles, and boats are the main form of transportation. The architecture of Lamuβs Old Town is one of the best examples of original Swahili architecture, as well as Arabic influences from Lamuβs time as an Omani protectorate and trading port. About an hourβs walk from Lamuβs old town is Shela and its long and wild strip of beach with powdery white sand. The all-white architecture of Shela contrasting with the turquoise waters is reminiscent of famous island destinations like Mykonos and Santorini, but with far fewer travelers and a much more laid-back vibe. Definitely a place to add to your bucket lists π°πͺ Stay tuned for more as I continue backpacking down the African continent π #travel #tiktoktravel #backpacking #travelblogger #traveltok
