Yes food is important while breastfeeding… However you can still make healthy & smart choices to aid you in your postpartum fitness journey…. I was able to “get back in shape” while still having an amazing breast milk supply! While not fully necessary, I have always tracked my macros & calories, and this definitely helped me ensure that I wasn’t going too overboard on calories (as breastfeeding hunger is no joke) AND to make sure I was eating tons of protein (at least 1g per lb of bodyweight) Not to mention tracking macros allows me to eat a huge variety while making it fit into my daily needs!
