What is Somatic Checking? π§πππ This is when you check your body for how it feels, reacts, functions, etc. - For example, someone with somatic obsessions might obsess over their breathing. - Someone with Harm OCD might obsess over how their hand feels when they get an intrusive urge. - Someone with sexual intrusive thoughts might obsess over their groinal area. - The paradoxical problem is that it seems like the more you focus on something, the stronger a sensation might feel. Itβs also common for anxiety symptoms to mimic other conditions. For example, shortness of breath from a panic attack being mistaken as a heart attack. - Like any compulsion, itβs best to cut these behaviors out!
