Have you ever heard of house hacking? Can you imagine buying your first house at 19? That’s exactly what Avas friend recently did! How incredible is that? She’s house hacking which means she’s renting the additional 3 bedrooms out to pay her mortgage payment. It’s a brilliant way to live for free (or at a reduced rate) because other people are paying your mortgage for you! When she initially offered Ava a room we recommended Ava wait and live at home and save for another year but as her friends prepared to move in she was really leaning towards joining them. Ava is so wise, prayed about her decision to move in with them and came to us with her reasoning and asked for our advice and blessing. While we did think saving for another year would be good for her we also completely understand the desire to make memories living with friends when you’re 19. We’re pretty firm believers that you can always make money to fund your goals so after discussing it with her we all agreed she could easily make up her rent every month and not get too behind in her saving goals. Releasing young adults into the world can be so bittersweet but truth be told Ava could not be living with a sweeter, or better, group of friends! Plus, theyre living in a neighborhood where about 5 other young families from our church live so it’s like they’re instantly surrounded with church community right there!
