Replying to @Gregatron yes accents affect pronunciation of equally valid English words & I intentionally cited many examples of the “oo” long U that are not dipthong-reliant. This quirk of language is uniquely & specifically in my wheelhouse, as we avoid blended letters when teaching one particular letter to preschoolers (i.e. we would use “sesame” but not “street” to teach the Letter S; “tulip” but not “route” —which can be pronounced “root” in American vernacular & accents—to teach the Letter U). #phonics #accent #english #language #linguistics #us #uk #temu #genx #indianajones #harrisonford #raidersofthelostark
