The Truth: Carrageenan As always, the more whole foods you can eat, the better off you will be. For the most part, carrageenan is in processed foods, which aren’t the best already. BUT when mom food bloggers read an article and then spew nonsense to millions of people, we must address it. The data that carrageenan is bad for humans is pretty weak. The data that shows its bad is for the DEGRADED form of carrageenan, not the food grade kind. This mix up has been happening for so long. Granted, I get that carrageenan may cause stomach upset in SOME people (just like many things affect different people), but there is no evidence that its harmful in any way. Eat healthy, live balanced, and don’t stress about the small things.
