Replying to @Rico #greenscreen Looking at #Florida’s population map! Florida is the 3rd most populous state with over 22 million residents, and one of (if not the) fastest growing states in the country. With the longest #coastline in the Continental #US, Florida is made up of two parts, the #Panhandle, and the #Peninsula. While the state capital, #Tallahassee, is located on the panhandle, as well as a few beach towns (namely #Destin, #PanamaCity, and #Pensacola), it is largely sparsely populated, being home to Florida’s least populous #county, #Liberty. The peninsula is home to nearly 80% of the state, with #Jacksonville being the largest city due to it annexing all of #Duval County, though the #Miami, #Tampa, and #Orlando #metropolitan areas are larger. The Miami metro, which includes other major cities like #DaytonaBeach, #WestPalmBeach, #MiamiBeach, #BocaRaton, #Hollywood, and #FortLauderdale, is the 9th biggest #metro in the country, and #Hialeah is the most #Cuban city in the #USA. Miami’s metro, in #southeast Florida, is essentially 100 miles of uninterrupted city along the #AtlanticOcean. Tampa’s metro, on the #GulfofMexico (sometimes known as the #GulfCoast metro), includes #StPetersburg, #Clearwater, #Bradenton, is the next largest in Florida, and resembles the Miami metro in that it arguably stretches down to #CapeCoral, #Sarasota, and #FortMyers. With the #Orlando metro in #CentralFlorida, home to #UniversalStudios, #Disney world, and a large concentration of other theme parks, it is predicted that #Southern Florida will become one giant #metropolis in the next ~30 years, assuming growth continues at the rate its going. Being home to so many #beaches, the #FloridaKeys (most famous of which is #KeyWest), endless amusement parks, inland #lakes, #islands, and multiple #nationalparks (#DryTortugas, #BiscayneBay, #Everglades) Florida is one of the most heavily visited #tourism destinations in the country, and its large population reflects its popularity. Many new Florida residents are ‘#snowbirds,’ a term used to describe someone who lives in Florida just long enough to benefit from its lack of income tax, while actually residing in other states, particularly in the #northeast and #midwest. This is largely what gives way to the adage that ‘in Florida, the further #north you go, the more #south it gets,’ since the Panhandle is much more tied to #Alabama and #Georgia than it is to the rest of the state, which is largely made up of transplants from Northern states, or even other localities in the Caribbean, like #Cuba or #PuertoRico. Does Florida warrant a part 2, and if not, what state should I cover next? #state #states #geography #geographyjoe #population #populationdensity #populationmap #map #maps #us #unitedstates #unitedstatesofamerica #libertycounty #disneyworld #universalstudios #sunshine #southbeach #coast #atlantic #gulf
