The #piluhat, an intricately embroidered headwear worn by monk #tangsanzang in the renowned TV series "Journey to the West," captivated many people's childhood imagination. However, beyond its role as a monk's headwear, this iconic name carries deeper significance as a distinctive architectural element in traditional Chinese buildings. Often found atop Buddhist shrines or adorning royal palaces, the Pilu Hat symbolizes the intricate fusion of spiritual reverence and architectural grandeur. During a recent visit to an antique furniture restoration workshop, our host Julian Waghann had the privilege of witnessing the restoration of a wooden Pilu Hat transported from Beijing's Dajue Temple.
