“Hold my hand if you are scared” said the flatworm. Likely a species of Catenulida, a freshwater flatworm that doesn’t make us sick. They live near shore, closer to surface and around aquatic vegetation and decomposing vegetation (leaves, for example). They are just big enough to see withour a microscope, using good lighting. They normally eat detritus and bacteria/algae around the detritus (detritus is decomposing plants, animals or animal waste) They are an important food source for small fish and amphibians when they hatch out of the egg and are real tiny. This is a bladder snail that just hatched today. Bladder snails are like other snails, just snailing around and eating algae, ya know, typical snail activities and stuff. They have a air bladder in them that they can use to sink to the bottom real quick, by like farting the air out of the bladder and changing bouyancy. Bouyancy is a hard word to spell. Like beauyancy? Boyancy? Boiancy? I mean its a cool word but really? You want me to spell that? That’s asking alot and my plates already kinda full so no thanks. Anywho, the snail has both reproductive organs so they can just make offspring with themselves, which tbh i wish i could do. Another me to do all the boring things. Bladder snails are found in freshwater ponds lakes streams and creeks and are invasive here in PA - eating all of our algae, like rude, please stop.
