Travel days are quite a bit of work. We’ve downsized a LOT, but there’s still some unavoidable tasks to prepare, whether you’re moving 10 minutes down the road or hundreds of miles away. This is one of our indoor tasks. We love our couches and how we can changed them into different configurations. So, it makes this task worth it! Given the choice to travel full time is a simple choice almost anyone would make given the opportunity, right? Well, if you think it was done without fear, you’re wrong. Every single decision we’ve made leading up to this point has been FILLED with fear. From the day we put our house on the market, there’s always been doubt and hesitation in the back of our heads. What if something goes wrong and we can’t go back? What if we hate it? (I know, but that thought has always been there). What if our kids hate it? What if we regret it? Then what? Every step of our journey was filled with those thoughts. But every time we make one of those scary choices and come out on the other side proud of ourselves, the growth is tremendous. We aren’t the same people we were when we started this journey. Yes, this life looks amazing to so many people looking in from the outside. But it’s not without tons of hard work and believe it or not, sacrifice. But what we realize at the end of each difficult choice we make, is that the easy choices wouldn’t have brought us here. Would the easy choices have been more comfortable? Sure. But the view from the mountaintop (literally and figuratively) is way more rewarding than the view from the bottom of the hill. One text changed everything. I think a lot about what would be different if I wouldn’t have decided to send that text? Would we still be living in our house? Would we still be working those unfulfilling jobs? Would we be happy? What if we would have gotten too scared to make the leap to try for full time travel life? It’s crazy to wonder! But I am so VERY glad I did. Because that ONE question set everything else in motion. I love this life! When we downsized from a 5 bedroom, 3,300 sf house to our full time 400 sf RV, we got rid of SO much stuff. The first clip of that pile of our things that we thought we loved was just a small fraction of what we donated or sold. Getting rid of all of that stuff was SO hard at first. What if we missed it? What if we needed it later? Then at some point, our thinking shifted. It became freeing to let go of things instead of it causing grief. It’s hard to let go of anything in life. But first, we let go of all of those things. Then we let go of the idea of what we thought was supposed to be the American dream (settling down in one spot, working a nine to five and accumulating “stuff”) Then we let go of one more thing… worrying about what other people thought about our idea of traveling full time and homeschooling our two youngest boys.
