Your decision in choosing adoption should never be so that you can “fix” a child. Adoptive parents enter into the adoption process excited about giving a child a better life. Dare I say, some think it will be filled with sunshine and rainbows. While these are motives are genuinely authentic and good, this mindset can set you up for disappointment and failure. I want to challenge you with this question: “If your child never recovers from their trauma, their emotional challenges as well as their physical challenges, would you still choose them?” This question will push you to dig DEEP into your motives and your intentions in choosing adoption. I do want you to hesitate in answering that question. I do want you to question your motives. Why? Because that child desperately needs YOU to be all in, 100%, with NO expectations of hoping their challenges are going to be “fixed.” Scary, right? I get it. It’s human nature to experience some fear around imagining the reality of that journey. I want to encourage you to posture your heart and mindset to be fixed on Christ, and not “fixing” your child. Jesus Christ found value in MY life-in YOUR life, that He willingly chose to pay our debts on the cross. He literally carried the weight of our sin and our filth so that we could have LIFE with Him. And in Him choosing to do so, it was NOT dependent on anything that I do or don’t do in life. All He requires of us is to submit ourselves fully to Him, repent from our sins, and follow after Him in ALL things. We must die to self. This mirrors adoption beautifully! What a glorious way to follow Christ, serve Christ, and to glorify Christ, by taking in His beautiful children; loving them unconditionally, just as He loves us. I speak from hard core experience. Trust me when I tell you that you will experience so much of HIS JOY, HIS PEACE, and HIS GOODNESS when you lay to rest your selfish (although well intended) motives, and allow Him to work in your weakness. #adoption #adoptivemom #specialneeds #autism #god #christianitytiktok #adoptionjourney
