Dear PCOS Besties: We have 0 ❌ scientific evidence demonstrating women with PCOS need to avoid gluten and dairy to improve their PCOS. 🥛 Dairy is absolutely fine in moderation, and a great source of protein, calcium, and other nutrients supportive of hormones like B vitamins and zinc. The only exception here is if you struggle with severe cystic acne — you may want to trial taking dairy out for a couple months to see if skin improves 🥖 There are folks that need to avoid gluten (aka Celiacs) and yes, there may be certain peeps who *may* benefit from removing it (non-celiac gluten sensitivity) but studies show this is less than 6% of the entire population! For women with PCOS, this makes up an even smaller number! The rest of us can enjoy high-fiber gluten-containing foods in normal amounts Noticed a positive change in how you feel after taking these foods out?! 👀 👇🏼 The reason why women may see improvements in their PCOS when restricting/eliminating these foods is because: 1️⃣ Suddenly we’re paying more attention to ingredient labels, nutrition facts, and what we’re eating. This will ALWAYS improve our overall health, especially when it comes to weight loss and inflammation 2️⃣ So many foods we’re used to eating are suddenly off-limits. This includes most foods at restaurants! For example, you go out to eat and pretty much the only available item on the menu is the salad with chicken. This would be the better choice for your blood sugar anyway! 3️⃣ When we restrict gluten and dairy, we’re usually making choices that are lower carb. THIS is what actually allows for progress in the blood sugar department, not the gluten and dairy themselves Hi 👋🏼 my name’s Cory- I’m a PCOS Dietitian who specializes in women’s health and hormones, weight loss, and fertility.
