Today was a nail biter! Early this morning we picked this beautiful girl up at an auction and began the six hour journey home. Every minute on the road was an eternity of anguish not knowing what the prognosis for our sweet new rescue would be. She has a large tumor on the inside of her mouth and we’re not sure how bad it is but our vet is ready and waiting to meet her at home. It’s been 3 weeks since we lost Annie the very same day we met her. If today we’d also have to say goodbye to Ylva, we would have and we’d find the strength in our hearts to keep doing whatever it takes to save more horses from the horrors of slaughter, abuse, and neglect. Today, however, ended on a brighter note! There are no guarantees and many more questions to answer but upon initial exam, there is a sliver of hope that Ylva’s tumor can be removed and that it may be treatable. We are going to schedule a CT scan and begin preparing for a possible surgery soon. The biggest news of the day, however, was that this big girl is only TWO YEARS OLD! She has so much life ahead of her and we hope we can give her the chance to live it. For now, she’s safe and comfy with a buffet of delicious alfalfa and as soon as we have more information we will let everyone know!
