5 days of epicness, info below ⬇️ The Cape to Cape Track is no doubt one of WAs best multi-day hikes. 130kms of spectacular coastal trail that runs from Cape Naturalist to Cape Leeuwin in @australias_southwest. I’ve just finished a 7 day backcountry hiking mission in spectacular south-west Tasmania. Rugged, wild and absolutely beautiful. ⛰️ I get asked a lot how I keep my pack weight down on hikes like this and while there are a lot of good ways to knock kilograms off your base weight one of the easiest ways for a lot of people is reducing the amount of clothes you bring along. You really only need 1 set of hiking clothes - you certainly don’t need a new shirt and shorts each day or even each week. The key is choosing clothes that are up for the task of constant wear over long periods of time. Layering clothing properly is essential to being comfortable and warm on multi-day hikes. Bringing along the best layers for the conditions and location is absolutely key. 🥾 In colder, wet environments, a mid-layer is the perfect addition to your kit and I think I’ve found my favourite mid-layer ever. One of my favourite hikes EVER⬇️ After spending 5 days on the incredible Western Arthurs Traverse, I decided to head straight onto the nearby Mt Anne Circuit the next day. I’ve heard great things about this trail and boy did it live up and even surpass my expectations.🤩 2 days and 1 night of unreal landscapes and walking. A healthy mix of well defined trail and technical challenges. WHAT A WAY TO FINISH🎉 That’s a wrap on our 5 day loop on the Western Arthurs Traverse. I hope you’ve enjoyed following along as I explored one of my favourite regions of the world! Tomorrow I continue the journey solo on another multi-day trail; The Mt Anne Circuit. ⛰️ The Western Arthurs Traverse is an incredible trail that is extremely difficult - think literal rock climbing, huge exposure and unpredictable weather. Not to mention 70kms of highly technical and steep hiking(all with a heavy pack). Do not attempt this trail without extensive hiking and climbing experience and adequate gear - just watch these daily vlogs instead to get a taste of the trail! 😎 I think this series is another perfect opportunity to remind you about Leave No Trace principles. On a hike as remote and untouched as the WAT, following these principles is absolutely essential. Take ALL trash home with you(including food scraps) and respect the natural environment each step of the way. I had to pick up plastic, food scraps and even a broken croc during this trek - that’s simply not acceptable behaviour. 🙌 PS. A permit is also required to hike the WAT and mandatory gear is needed to be permitted on trail by rangers. ✅
