Imagine Leeds... with trams! 🤯🚃 West Yorkshire leaders have now confirmed they'll submit plans to the government for the first phase of a mass transit network to be built. Introducing the 'West Yorkshire Tram System', which could eventually see trams connecting all sides of Leeds - and the wider region 📍 It's not the first time the city has heard of plans for something like this. A £250m trolleybus network was scrapped at the final hurdle in 2016. Plans like it even date back to the early 90s! 😲 And of course up until the late 1950s, Leeds did have its own tram system connecting key parts of the city. This latest scheme, proposed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, will see Phase 1 link Leeds and Bradford via the 'Bradford Line', while the 'Leeds Line' will run from St. James's Hospital to White Rose via the city centre and Elland Road ⚽ West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin will now submit the ‘Strategic Outline Case’ to the government. Rishi Sunak previously redirected funding for the now scrapped HS2 to help fund a tram network in Leeds. What do you think about the plans? 💭 #leeds #leedscitycentre #westyorkshire #masstransit #bradford #tram
