Mjadara is a Middle Eastern rice dish that consists of rice, lentils, caramelized onions and olive oil🫒 this simple and humble meal is one of my favorites! Serve with a spicy salsa, cucumber, mint & garlic yogurt + a salad and it’s amazing 🥰 Enjoy! -1 cup jasmine rice -1 1/2 cups brown lentils -3 onions (use half of 1 to cook with rice) -4 cups water(1 of the cups to cook the lentils) -2 tsp salt (add more if needed) -1/2 tsp cumin -2 tablespoons olive oil + 1/2 cup more for frying sliced onions Sauté 1/2 of a chopped onion with the 2 tablespoons of olive oil until softened. Add in the washed brown lentils and 1 1/2 cups water . Bring to a simmer and cook until the lentils are halfway cooked . Add in washed jasmine rice and add more water to cover the rice and lentils, add salt and cumin and bring to a low simmer and cover with a lid for 15-20 minutes until the rice is soft . Fry the sliced onions while the rice and lentils are cooking until caramelized . Once the rice is done m top the rice with the caramelized onions and mix well.
