Lawyers who practice international law fly a lot. A mainstream view that we should fly less to cut our carbon footprint is too simplistic. In 2022, I suggested we should engage in a more thoughtful discussion about whether our activities requiring air travel promote important societal goals. Would we want a lawyer flying to negotiate a peace treaty that could prevent an imminent war instead do her work via videoconference? Back then, I proposed we should continue to fly when needed, but we should also purchase sustainable aviation fuel as offsets. My profession was intrigued, at best. I’m glad more countries now agree. Singapore just announced that from 2026 all departing flights must use at least some sustainable aviation fuel. #sustainableaviationfuel #saf #climatechange #globalwarming #internationalflights #chengharrellinstitute
