Yesterday, we were driving Aria to school and I got a call from the hospital, some of Luca’s tests had resulted from when we were in the ER on Monday and we needed to come in to be admitted immediately for high levels of infection in his body. That morning, Luca had taken a turn and after school drop offs, I had planned on taking him in because he was crying all the time (something was wrong), he still had high fevers and things seemed like they were getting worse. We went back to the ER and they started repeating all tests and as we were there his oxygen saturations started dropping, his fever also started rising. He ended up testing positive for andovirus (respiratory virus) and the results of the infections have shifted a few times. Currently he is being treated for bacterial pneumonia and potentially sepsis. He’s on very strong antibiotics and we are still waiting for these tests to result to know exactly what’s going on but we are covering our basis in the meantime. Luca’s immune system is so weak and he catching things constantly, including at the ER this week. They are also developing into infections so quickly because of his body’s inability to fight it. Last night was horrible, his fever went up to 106.9 on medicine. He was switched to the PICU and put on high flow nasal cannula oxygen. He’s on the edge in every way. There’s a chance the antibiotics start working and the virus starts making its way out of his system pretty fast, there’s also a chance he declines more requiring additional intervention and a potential move to another hospital. I miss Luca’s smile, I haven’t seen it in so long. I’m grateful we were here when everything went downhill so quickly yesterday. I know what Luca is capable of overcoming, so much, the list is a mile long, I also want him to have a really long break, I want him to just be able to be a baby. We so appreciate your prayers.
