I share her story in hopes for awareness and advocacy. This came out of the blue with no warning. There is no way anyone could have predicted this. Anaira was diagnosed with a rare condition called Functional Neurological Disorder. It’s not caused by structure abnormalities in the brain but rather by the way the brain sends and receives signals. It’s not a “hardware issue” it’s a “software issue” with how the brain communicates. Basically a disconnect between the mind and body. So essentially there is no cure nor magical medicine to just “fix” the problems. She will have good days where she needs no mobility support, and others where she needs some. Multiple therapies will help to an extend. Her FND is currently causing weekness in the legs, vomiting, and non-epileptic seizures.
