Mexican jumping beans are seed pods housing the larva of the small moth Cydia saltitans, causing the beans to move due to the larva's activity. During spring, as the shrub blossoms, moths deposit their eggs on the hanging seedpods. After hatching, minuscule larvae burrow into the green pods, consuming the seeds. As the pods mature, they drop to the ground, splitting into three segments, known as Mexican jumping beans. Enclosed within, the tiny larvae rhythmically move, causing the bean to jump as they repeatedly hit the capsule's walls Watch the incredible motion here! #jumpingbeans #mexicanjumpingbeans #nature
