God, we lost him too soon. Philip Seymour Hoffman was such an amazing actor. And him and PTA’s relationship was a truly wholesome reality in Hollywood. The things they could’ve done together… So grateful for his work. He was one of the best, authentic, unpredictable actors around. Always brought something new to the table and always made you FEEL. Okay. Gonna watch Oppenheimer again tonight. Then do a deep dive into Poor Things. Love both these guys. So many younger people only know RDJ as Iron Man/Tony Stark, which is great. He was amazing in that. But his career has been insane. What he’s gone through and been able to come back in the biggest way. There was a period where just about all of Hollywood gave up on him. But he kept going and got himself together. And look at him now. Chaplin is one of my favorites from him. Kiss Kiss Bang Band too. He’s been in some amazing films. And now… Oppenheimer. Raging Bull is my favorite movie from the 80s. Even though it feels so different than so many movies of that time. Top 3 Scorsese for me. But I just love what Scorsese talks about in terms of seeing himself in Jake LaMotta - seeing something that he needed to understand in his own psyche. That’s why he’s such an amazing director. Always so personal. And vulnerable. Also, we need another breakthrough in Hollywood. Something needs to change this stalemate we’re. Brando has influenced so many of the best, most impactful actors to ever do it. Like Dennis Hopper (love him too). He was amazing. But aside from that, more importantly, it’s how he changed the way people actually thought about acting for the screen. He is the actor that made so many others want to be more “realistic.” Whatever you wanna call it. He didn’t create that style. But he mastered it and made it popular. And he was so unpredictable and never repeated himself in his early years. But I think it was also his God-given charisma. Just his face on the silver screen was like a fucking magnet.
