“I am fighting for a world where being a girl is not a punishment.” My name is Maya. I am a student, artist, figure skater and musician. For me, art is a powerful tool in the fight for women’s rights and bodily autonomy. I create art and publish writing that both celebrates women and highlights their struggles to attain equality. At school, I am creating a feminist zine and encouraging girls to join me in creating art and writing that gives them a place to feel heard. And figure skating is a medium to showcase my abilities both as a skilled technician and artist in a sport that was once banned to women.
