🦙New project klaxon! 🚨🚨🚨Check out my website for the full project. 👍 PostSharp and Metalama are two frameworks that help software developers improve their code quality and productivity through meta-programming. President & Principal Engineer Gael Fraiteur needed help branding the new product, Metalama, in a way that harmonised with the current branding for PostSharp, which already had a lot of traction in the market. So we’d need to stick to the current colours and fonts, but introduce a new icon for Metalama, which would be the flagship product moving forward.  One of the requirements from Gael’s brief was that the logo shouldn’t be too playful. It was very tempting to come up with illustrated concepts that depicted a llama, but in the end I would need to find a solution that reflected the industry, but would be taken seriously. The ‘sharp’ # symbol in the parent company name represented the C# programming language that the framework is used for. And I managed to find an abstract llama shape inside a stylised version of a # symbol. By introducing small separations in the design, we could keep the overall shape of the symbol, while revealing the llama icon in a subtle way.  "Designing a logo of a new product under an established brand demands the right balance of creativity and humility. How do you showcase your design work so people give a sh*t? And it’s not with fancy mockups You’ve finished a logo design project. Months of hard work and endless revisions are over, and now you get to share your designs with the world. You whip up a carousel post with a bunch of Photoshop mockups of the logo and hit POST… …and watch in desperation as that climactic moment sails by with nothing more than a couple of “Good job 👍” comments. And no client leads. I was guilty of this for years, until I changed tack and started turning these design projects into *teachable moments* like the case study video below. Instead of simply showing off my *fantastic* 🤣 work, I started telling stories about the problems my clients were facing and how I solved them. This type of content, a) teaches other designers. b) shows clients how the process might work for them. Views on the posts shot up and new design leads went through the roof. People scrolling on social media are either looking to be entertained or to grow as a person. And by creating content that gives the viewer a reason to care about your project, you’ve showcased more than just your pretty designs. You’ve proven that your work solved a problem.
