Jogging isn’t slow running. It’s an intentional heel strike. In the late 1960's, New Zealand running coach Arthur Lydiard invented jogging as a training tool to get people in shape to run. And when Nike founder Bill Bowerman learned this technique from him and brought it to the US in the 70's, it took off. Now, it’s taken on a life of its own as cardio for the sake of fitness has become popular. Sure, you can jog fast and be a competitive endurance athlete. But good luck doing that without thickly padded shoes. Running is a natural human movement. Jogging is a technologically enabled option. If you want to sprint, jump, and play sports, you need to take the time to build the strength and technique for running. But if you just enjoy getting out for some cardio, jogging is fine.
