My sister has endured a lot in the last 3 years alone. During the pandemic we were unable to see her for almost a full year because APD quarantined all their clients, understandably. But her direct care staff never gave my family the option to FaceTime or virtually visit in any way! After our mother specifically stated she didn’t want Nasa vaccinated until after we both received the Covid vax to see how we reacted, they still illegally vaccinated her without our mother’s, her legal guardian’s, consent. In addition to this they allowed her to return to her day program early with her family under the impression that she was not vaccinated where she caught Covid and had to receive medical attention. There have been countless times when I, myself, have picked Nasa up for a visit and while using the restroom I discovered that direct care staff allowed her to sit in an old dirty diaper for who knows how long. Last year during another time I picked my sister up for a visit it was to my surprise a direct care employee illegally cut Nasa’s hair from mid back length up to her cheeks! All we got were excuses, an empty apology and the new employee got a slap on the wrist. Management informed us that when asked, “Why would you think it was okay to cut her hair without asking permission from her guardian first?” the staff member responded, “What’s a guardian?” The next time my mother and I picked my sister up for a visit we noticed she had DEEP teeth marks all over her arm. We made a report to her support coordinator and DCF made multiple investigations. When asked by investigators why they didn’t report the incident or markings they stated they had no idea she had said injuries! Keep in mind, it is their jobs as Direct care givers to assist my sister, who is non-verbal and can hardly do much for herself without assistance, with things like bathing or getting dressed. We later were told by investigators staff actively chose not to report the injuries because it happened at her day program. If you would like to help my link is in my bio. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated! #grouphome #negligence #abuseawareness #disabilitytiktok
