An unchecked dog population is not “nature”, it’s cruel. So I will always celebrate and support organizations like #banfieldfoundation that invest and prioritize a preventive/wellness approach to animal welfare, because dollar for dollar, there’s probably nothing better. In only THREE DAYS, Banfield Foundation and @The Parker Project cared for 230 sick dogs/cats and spayed/neutered 180!! This is often what animal welfare work looks like in rural and under-served communities. A lack of spay/neuter means too many dogs (and cats). And without the resources to care for them, animals suffer. In situations like this, the highest good is to minimize suffering for as many dogs and cats as possible. This is exactly what #banfieldfoundation focuses on with their work. Besides funding spay/neuter clinics and providing winter supplies, they’ve granted super high tech mobile vet units (medical vans) to support communities like this with limited or no access to veterinary care. Without their upstream/preventive approach to animal welfare, more animals end up suffering downstream so it’s incredibly important work.
