Yesterday's video covered straps in lieu of collar ties. In an attic we'll always install collar ties. IRC spec's 4 3" x.131" nails at each. @itwpaslode XP nailer to keep the ar a clutter free (no hose). In fact we framed the entire roof with these nailers. If you're interested, ridge beam is a 5.5"x13.5" . . #Carpenter life Hearing protection by @isotunes coupon Timmy10#engineering#strongtie#framersareadyingbreed#framer#framerlife#framing#footings#foundation#concrete#mathneverlies#layitoutbuilditup#carpenter#carpentry#keenutility#squaresnapbuildrepeat#finishframing#frametheworld#construction#craftsman#framersofig#ppe#hearingprotection#framersofinstagram#carpenterlifeoriginal sound

Your morning #ASMR Advantech Subfloor Adhesive foam to gel polyurethane. Been using this since 2017. Fast installation, strong bond and used with Advantech and engineered wood floor system, you can get a squeak free guarantee from @Huber Engineered Woods (read the flyer for the details). Follow the instructions on shaking the can and open time on the glue. I've had this long barrel foam gun for years. #huberpartner #framersareadyingbreed #advantech #advantechsfa #worksmarternotharder

Since we took the time to straighten the rim BEFORE sheathing, we decided to route the edges. This is 3/4" @Huber Engineered Woods Advantech X-Factor, the bit shown in the video on a @MetaboHPT router over Roseburgco Rigidrim LVL. 26' in less than a full minute according to the actual video clip. . Will I always use the router to cut the excess off? Nope, but I wanted to test this but and router and see how it did. #framing #carpenter #advantech #framersareadyingbreed . Instead of handling and cutting long I Joists, just lay them where they need to go, snap a line 1/8" bigger than your rim material and cut them in place.  These were handled 1 time off the forklift into position.  Floor system is Roseburg I Joist 24" oc and LVL rim. Stay tuned, we'll be balloon framing all our 2 story walls. . #efficiency #framing #diablofreudambassador #framersareadyingbreed #tipsandtricks @Makita Tools USA @Diablo Tools @Nicks Handmade Boots

22 years ago we bought our first forklift. This has saved us tons (literally)of physical labor. Weight adds up and deck building is brutal. All of the materials are heavy and usually have to be moved by hand. Here in the PNW the treated wood we use is "pressure treated." This process uses water to infuse the wood with preservatives, resulting in heavy lumber. The treatment doesn't penetrate uniformly or all the way into the wood either.  The #PWTTreated LVL 2x8 10' in this video weighs 19.4 lbs less per stick, than the pressure treated wood we normally use. Put another way, if I lift a pressure treated 2x8 10', I'm lifting 68.7% more weight each time. We don't have to cull and sort. My 46-year old back and elbows are telling me pick PWT Treated. I personally went to the lumberyard and weighed the wood there and compared it to the Treated LVL. #ad #PWT #PWTpros #construction #deckconstruction #builder #build

Jigs! Quick and dirty jig for cutting I Joist blocking Roseburg EWP package. Cut 1 end square, scab on a piece of whatever as a stop, cut a hole for your hands. Jig should be block length - 1 1/2" (edge of baseplace to blade) - 1/16". Blocks should always be 1/16" short. Then start cutting. . Why not use a mitersaw? Because I'll be done before its set up, plus I save the time breaking the saw down. It would have done zero good on this floor to get it set up just for this. Personally, I have found it better to skip a miter saw as a framer. We tried it and after 2 houses (back in 2008), all realized it wasn't productive. Beam saws and jigs are more productive BUT make each decision on the task, not as hard always this or always that. Little @Makita Tools USA blower is my favorite tool of the last year. #framer #framing #efficient #diablofreudambassador #huberpartner Oh and protect your eyes and hearing. It isn't difficult, you aren't cool squinting and constantly saying "what?"
