Blog: I scrambled to get current pictures into a portfolio for an audition that came to me out of the blue. It was an Anne Wheeler film. She was a hot Canadian film industry director at the time. I hadn’t done anything for years in the entertainment business. The strangest thing happened during this audition process. The scene I was reading for was about a transgender woman frustrated about not getting her second stage “labiaplasty” paid for by medical insurance. Unbelievably, this was exactly what I was fighting for at the time. I told the director that when I met her for the audition, and she just looked at me with a long blank stare. The next day the Agent said,... “she was looking for somebody who is a little more obviously transgender looking,...yah know?!”. I was crushed yet again. Later when I saw the movie, the role was played by a CIS gender male actor who looked like a drag queen. I was relieved and repulsed at the same time. The world had still not in a caught up with any decency or reality of our experience. That was the last time I ever auditioned for anything. note * The role I was auditioning for was based on a woman I knew who had just unalived herself a year before. She was beautiful, talented and every inch a woman. I’m sure she would be have been rolling in her grave over this. Her name was “Star”! Rest in Power Star.🙏💞 #trans #1970s #1980s #lgbt #actor #foryoupage
