Telemedicine is not just for remotely monitoring the health of #astronauts in #space, but also for many applications on #Earth. Our studies on the #ISS support the developing of the techniques needed to deliver health care in remote locations, or for example, in places affected by natural disasters. The toilet on the #ISS is made of a hose with a funnel for “no. 1” & a toilet seat with a solid waste container for “no. 2”. For both, the trick is... suction! To make sure things go in the right direction & to control odours, the first thing we do is to turn on the fan & the last thing we do is to turn it off! Urine is more than 90% water, so to avoid transporting lots of water from Earth, we recycle collected urine back to clean, drinkable water aboard the Space Station. #MissionMinerva

It feels like only yesterday that me & the rest of #Crew4 launched from the Kennedy Space Center - but it’s been 6 whole months! And now it’s been 2 weeks since we said goodbye to our friends & colleagues on #ISS. After splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean, an Italian Air Force crew kindly flew me back to Cologne, where my family & friends were awaiting my arrival. It is a bittersweet moment for me. I’m so happy to be back, but I will miss the Space Station, my home in space! #MissionMinerva
