While the holidays may be close to the end, for many Hispanic families and many others we still have Día de Reyes to celebrate! #ad Come see what I found at @HomeGoods that I was able to cross off my list to celebrate the holiday coming up. On January 6th we celebrate the three kings/wise men that visited and came bearing gifts to baby Jesus. The night before on the 5th, just like children would wait for Santa, we wait for the three wise men to come visit our homes who leave gifts to children. Children leave their best pair of shoes outside their doors to be filled with gifts. Gifts can range from small toys to some a bit larger, but usually also filled with sweets like oranges, gold chocolate coins and peanuts. In the past, this was the only day many children received presents, but nowadays many families celebrate both Christmas and Día de Reyes. On the 6th children unwrap their gifts, followed by a big family meal, tamales or pozole in our case and let’s not forget the Rosca de Reyes. The bread is circular to represent the 3 kings crowns and jeweled with candied, dried fruits on top and to symbolize God’s infinite love, no beginning or end. And inside we hide a surprise! A baby Jesus is hidden inside and whoever finds it gets to host the next holiday making tamales. At least this is the case for Mexicans. I’m curious to know what you do similar or different.
