DID you know that organic food is also grown with pesticides? Yup, it’s one of the biggest misconceptions, thanks to activist groups like the EWG. Agriculture uses pesticides: herbicides, fungicides, insecticides to prevent crops from being destroyed by things that would impact food yields. When growing food for billions of people, that’s the reality. Many organic pesticides are less effective and need to be used at higher levels than their conventional counterparts. In addition, many have worse ecological impact: they can target non-selectively, killing predators of pests we don’t want to kill, or bioaccumulating and impacting other species in the ecosystem. Organic foods are not pesticide free. They’re also not healthier, more nutritious, or better for the environment. EVERYTHING can be toxic or non-toxic at a certain dose. Natural isn’t “better” & the word “toxic” without context means nothing. In reality, the foods you get at the store don’t have clinically meaningful levels of ANY pesticide, whether it is organic or conventional. If you want to spend extra money on organic foods, that’s your choice. But don’t do so based on false information.
