Black tea is my favorite and easiest way to turn white fabrics more of an ivory or cream. I especially love it because it is so forgiving, and you can die your fabrics multiple times until it is dark enough for you. It takes a little bit of practice but is definitely a beginners project. I especially love this process because it allows me to be exact and to match my fabric to the exact shade of white or ivory that I need. For example, sometimes my brides will send me swatches of their wedding dress so that I can tea dye the fabric for her veil or cape to match her wedding dress exactly. Steps: 1. Steep tea bags in boiling water in a bowl for at least 3 to 4 minutes 2. Pre-wash your fabric that you want to dye so that it does not have any anything on it that will prevent the dye from taking 3. Remove teabags and stir the water well 4. Submerge the fabric in your bowl, and continuously stir for at least 4 to 5 minutes 5. Remove the fabric from the bowl and hang it out to dry, making sure that the fabric is spread out and not crumpled or folded 6. If the fabric is still not dark enough to your liking, then you can repeat steps 4 and 5 above. A few of my general tips: 1. Make sure that you are using high-quality tea. The cheaper teas will sometimes have granules of that escape from the teabag and this can cause uneven dying. 2. Make sure that your bowl that you are dying the fabric in is big enough and that the fabric can move around freely. 3. You can use more teabags depending on how dark or light you want the fabric to be. 4. Make sure that you are continuously stirring the fabric when it is in the tea bath as this will avoid uneven dying. #blacktea #teadye #howtodyefabric #fabricdying #fabricdye #naturaldye #weddingveildesign #easyproject
