Such important advice about your baby’s movements in pregnancy from Dr Amir Khan on behalf of the incredible midwives at Bradford Royal Infirmary and definitely too good not to share! You can usually expect to feel baby’s movements between 16-24 weeks of pregnancy, and you should notice a pattern developing around 30-32 weeks . This pattern is what is normal for your baby and any deviation from this norm should be reported immediately to your local maternity assessment centre (may also be called Triage). Reduced fetal movements can indicate that your baby is feeling unwell or is compromised in some way and should be checked out by a Midwife as a matter of urgency. Never put off reporting reduced fetal movements; prompt action really can be a lifesaver. Remember that maternity units are staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week including Bank Holidays, and you are never a burden or an inconvenience to your Midwives. This applies right up until, and in fact during labour – there is an Old Wives’ Tale that babies run out of space towards the end of pregnancy and therefore don’t move as much; this simply is NOT true. Finally, please please NEVER use a home doppler to listen in to your baby. Midwives train for years to be able to listen to and interpret a baby’s hearbeat and simply hearing it is NOT an indication that your baby is well. 📹️ : @doctoramirkhan #doctorsoftiktok #pregnancy #thirdtrimester #babykicks #fetalmovements #midwife #studentmidwife #babykicking
