A couple weeks ago I took Ashton and Ocean to the trampoline park by our house, we had never been there and Ash was nervous to try all the trampolines and places here. Ocean held his hand and guided him to the trampolines the entire time, she also told him to follow her voice and he had so much fun! When Ash was little, he used to be terrified of big trampoline parks because they were so loud and had so many things he wasn’t sure how to try because he couldn’t see them. Last year was the first time he started being interested in going to trampoline parks and it was all because of Ocean. She always takes his hand and guides him in big loud places and he feels more comfortable. He also got so much faster at running after her and having fun like the rest of the kids at the park. I love how much Ocean teaches others about inclusion when she guides her brother in new places. She’s teaching the rest of the world to believe in her brother too. Last year Ocean convinced Ashton to try one of the waterslides at our favorite waterpark. It was the first week of summer and I was sure Ash would never try a water slide. Somehow Ocean encouraged him to do it and promised him it would be fun. I’m so glad he did and he loved going down the slide last year with her. This year the first thing he asked about was this waterslide as soon as we got to the waterpark. He tried it with both of his sisters this time. And then both of them convinced him to try another water slide. I was nervous because because the second slide lands in a pool and he wasn’t used to that, but the lifeguard was so kind to wait for him at the bottom and guide him to the stairs. The best Mother’s Day gift is to know they will always take care of each other. On Saturday, we visited @laughingowlgreenhouses to pick out Mother’s Day planters. This is a tradition my kids love to do for Mother’s Day for me. My favorite part of this tradition is watching my girls help Ashton plant the flowers in the pots. They also love describing the colors of the flowers to him and letting him smell them. I had told them my favorite colors so they knew which flowers to pick for me. My girls loved being able to find the flowers in the nursery. This place is beautiful and has so many greenhouses to pick from. The owner is one of my good friends and she even helped my kids when they were planting the flowers in the pots. Stephanie is one of the kindest people I know and my kids learned so many things about plants from her. I hope they always remember all the time we gave them. On Saturday we took our kids on one more summer adventure to a waterpark that is about an hour from our house. We hadn’t brought them here since Ash was little and I wasn’t sure how he would like the big slides but he loved trying them with Ocean and Jordan. His sisters always find a way to encourage him to try new things. They are the most supportive girls to their brother who can’t see what he’s getting into but he trusts them with all his heart. I loved watching them all playing and having fun together. We also loved seeing so many families from our local school for the blind here. It was an event for all the families of blind children in our state and we got so see some of the families we met at the last camp we went to. Ashton loves talking and interacting with other blind children and it was so much fun being able to see these families again. Also seeing so many white canes around us and knowing other families also love taking their kids who are blind on adventures. It feels like this summer flew by so fast and I can’t believe how big our kids are getting with having a middle schooler and a high schooler this year. I’m so glad we have these moments with them. I hope they always remember how important it was for us to have time with them when they look back at all the things we did together as a family.
