Bring the mixture to a boil, whisking constantly. Once boiling, continue whisking for 1 minute, then remove from heat. 2. **Prep the Buns:** Slice your hot cross buns in half horizontally. Arrange the bottom halves in a baking dish with sides, making sure they are snug and touching. 3. **Assemble:** Pour the custard over the bottom halves, spreading it evenly. Gently place the top halves of the buns on the custard layer. 4. **Chill:** Pop the assembled buns in the fridge to cool and set.
